Bernard Bolzano, the polymath

On the occasion of the conference with the same title, the exhibition Bernard Bozano, the polymath was held in the Library of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences from the 23rd of September to the 23rd of October 2024, from 12 to 3 p.m.

The exhibition aimed, first and foremost, to provide an overview of Bolzano’s life and work by means of first editions of his works and those of some of his contemporaries, translations and studies on him, and reproductions of portraits, engravings and maps of his time. But, at the same time, it sought to spread the word about the Bernard Bolzano Collection established last year by the Junior Star project PragMatika (GA ČR 23-06540M) in collaboration with Library of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Science, which includes works by, about and related to Bolzano.

Bernard Bozano, the polymath was organised by PragMatika and was made possible thanks to the unwavering support of the Library of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences and all its staff, as well as the generous support of the National Library of the Czech Republic and the Municipal Library of Prague.

The exhibition was curated by Elías Fuentes Guillén and Natalie Emma Johnsonová, with the assistance of Tereza Liepoldová, Klára Zelinková, Petra Hyklová and Daniel Kadlec. On the 23rd of September and the 8th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 16th and 23rd October Elías Fuentes Guillén gave 45-minute guided tours, while the other members of the team acted as guides for those visitors who came on other days.
